Hi I have been researching to buy a TV for some time now. I must admit that this is the best forum I have found to gain knowledge and learn before making a decision. People in the forum, specially (Marc and RandyM) seems to have a lot of knowledge about the technologies and ready to share their knowledge, experience to educate newbie like me. But I must admit that I am still confused. Initially I was inclined towards the LCD flat panel TVs as I was worried that Plasmas would die within 5 years. Then I learnt from this forum that Panny Plasmas would last 60,000 hours. Reliability is the key issue for me to decide about which TV to buy. I could possibly compromise a bit on PQ if I knew the reliability is top notch. I hate to go through the same experience of researching on a TV, 10-20 hours a week in two or three years time. I read great experience from people about the Panny, Pioneer and NEC Plasmas. If I remember correctly I haven't read a single complain about these plasmas. But my living room is very bright during the day. So I am little hesitant to go for a Plasma and inclining towards the LCDs. But I haven't read consistently good reviews about the any of the LCDs. Some people have praised their Sharp or Sony where has quite a few people have complained about reliability on these TVs too. The Westy and Syntax have also received mixed reviews. In such a scenario I will have to depend on my luck to great extend, which I hate to do. I don't mind paying a higher price for Sharp or Sony over Westy or Syntax if I am convinced that I am getting a reliable product of the quality of Panny plasmas, in other words value for money. Could anyone of you advice me of reliability figures for LCD flat panels. Does anyone of you know of any consumer guide/forums research reports stating which are the most reliable LCD flat panel TVs. Also how big is the brightness of a room an issue with Plasmas? Thank you in advance for your advices.
