Help need to operate toshiba 27af45 without remote

Hi! Anyone please help. I've had a toshiba 27 inch flat screen for just under 2 years now. Recently my remote went dead. Tried everything, new batteries everything. Even bought a universal remote to fix the problem. The universal remote does not take any codes to work with the tv. However it works with my dvd and my vcr so I know the problem is with the tv. I'm suspecting my sensor may have gone bad. Not sure if I have warranty on this TV. Problem is there is no way to change menus on the tv itself. I just need to watch dvds but I cant change from tv to dvd without the remote. Does anyone know how? Or any other suggestions will be very welcome. Thanks!
With a just under 2 year old TV, it may just be that the code for your TV isn't programmed into the universal. I'd take your remote to an electronics store and see if it operates one of their TVs, the code is probably still the same. That will tell you if it's the TV or the remote.
