I just replaced my 15 year old 40 inch Pioneer with this 50 inch Sony. I am very dissapointed in the picture. The Pioneer was Much clearer. The Sony has blurry background, and if there is small text at the bottom of the screen(for instance, diclaimers), they are so blurry, I can hardly read them. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with a Sony Tech, and we couldn't get it any clearer. By the way, I have Dish Network, and I am using the S-video cable. Are there any tricks to this TV? Help!

I've got the same set and it also looks poor with a standard sattelite signal. However, dvds look excellent using component cables. I'm now looking into HD programming offered through VOOM. Dish Network is currently working on an HD upgrade package for current subscibers but have nothing yet. If you call thier customer support they'll put you on a call list to be contacted when they have something to offer.
But again, there is no trick to getting a better picture. I think the tv was designed with an HD or DVD signal in mind. Standard signal will look like crap.

Hey boys,

I have the sony, using component cables and a HD box provided by the cable compnay and the HD channels are incredible. The regular channels are not as bad, but with the digital signal they are pretty good,
