Here we go: Looking at buying a Maxent 32inch LCD HDTV. I am really concerned, because it does not have a built in ASTC tuner for digital reception. I've been researching HDTVs for some time now. Question 1: If it does not have a built in HD-Tuner, what will I need to get OTA-HDTV, and other HDTV sources? Question 2: I'm scared if I buy the TV, I wont be able to get HD immediately. So should I buy it? Keep in mind that I already have a digital cable box and will be watching alot of movies and engaged in online Gameplay (Xbox). Thanks Guys!!

K, Here are some things to keep in mind. In response to question 1, this set will require a set top HDTV receiver to display OTA-HDTV, which is an added expense. On March 1, 2006, all sets 26" and above MUST have a built-in HDTV tuner. So, if you can wait until then, you will already have your HD tuner, although the price might go up $100 or so. Another hint, LCDs are likely to go down after Christmas, so you might come out even.
Just a correction- that date for analog to digitial signal changeover was pushed back beyond 2006; I do not recall the exact date however it is NOT in 2006. Congress just passed the updated version of the legislation on this.
Second- I dont think that that 26 and above statement is true. Its about signal type, not requiring manufacturers to install tuners. Remember, the commerical display business, in which no tuners are present, is big business. For displays that have tuners however; they will all be digital as opposed to analog.
Anyway, soon set top box digital signal tuners will be commonplace and you would get one of those. Warning; they vary in quality in a way that will effect the quality of the HD signal displayed.
Thanks for the quick response guys. I understand everything with HDTV programming besides this HD-Tuner thing. So let me get this right, I need an external ATSC Tuner to rec. HDTV reception? If this is correct, what 'universal' brands would you guys recommend or does the manufacturer require a brand-specific tunner? Thanks Guys!!

Marc, you are confusing the date for the end of analog signals with the date for the end of selling of non-integrated sets. There will be analog signals for another couple years, but unless a set is sold as a monitor, it must be integrated if over 26" on March 1st.
