HDMI help?

I am setting up a new Panasonic HD Plasma for a friend, and I have a couple of questions about HDMI connections. When I bought my plasma, I used DVI as it was the newest thing. I'm also doing this blind, as I have not seen their setup yet, so I'm trying to be prepared when I get there to set it up

1. The plasma they are getting does not have speakers, it's just a monitor. I know HDMI carries audio signal, but since they have a separate receiver, do I just connect using optical cable to receiver? (connecting with Comcast HD box)
2. Has comcast activated the HDMI ports on the back of their boxes? When I purchased mine, they were not activated yet, just for show.

3. Does the quality of the cable matter? I've read that when dealing with a digital signal, the quality of the cable is not as important as with analog, because the signal is neither clean nor dirty, as it is either a 1 or a 0. This makes sense to me, and I'd rather not spend $150 on cables if I can get the job done for $30.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

OK..... Comcast didn't work with HDMI to the reciever for me. And it disables the digital audio ports when you plug in the hdmi cable. Your cables will be fine if you get the hdmi from the DVD to the reciever and the reciever to the TV if it's HDMI. Look at monoprice.com (i'm using their cable and monster cables and I see no difference. it's a digital signal) As for the analog cables (componet) you really should use better cables.. Cheap cables will cause color banding. I can post examples if you need proof.

please post proof...I'd like to see the difference as I bought a lot of cables from monoprice also. Haven't used it all yet.
