Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the Sharp Aquos LC45GD6U and the LC45GD7U models? I see about a $1000.00 price difference, but can't figure out why...maybe I'm missing something in the descriptions. Thanks for any assistance.
Richard, after looking at the detailed specs of both TV's the only diiference I see is in the "video system". The "6" has NTSC while the "7" has NTSC/ATSC. Here is a brief description of what ATSC is:
" "Advanced Television System Committee" is the name of the technical standard that defines the digital TV (DTV) that the FCC has chosen for terrestrial TV stations. ATSC employs MPEG-2, a data compression standard. MPEG-2 typically achieves a 50-to-1 reduction in data. It achieves this by not retransmitting areas of the screen that have not changed since the previous frame. Digital cable TV systems and DBS systems like DirecTV have devised their own standards that differ somewhat from ATSC. Their high-def set top boxes (STBs) conform to ATSC at their output connectors. All of these systems use MPEG-2. ATSC has 18 different formats. All TVs must be able to receive all of these formats and display them. Most TV sets will display only 1 or 2 of these formats, but will convert the other formats into these."
the Sharp lc45gd7U has TV Guide. It replaces the 6U which explains the price difference. The 6U is being discontinued. What I'd like to know, and can't find out from the Sharp website is whether the 7U is an upgrade visa-vie support for 1080p imput and the ability to show full spec 1080i. According to CNET, the 6u was unable to fully display 1080.
