I have a KDP-51WS550 51" rear projection Sony that has suffered burn in from a cable news program. What is the process to repair? Typically what does something like this cost up here in the Great Lakes region?

You repair it by either replacing the crts assuming it's a CRT based set... At 173 lbs I would assume it's not a dlp set, etc. Was just online trying to find some parts for it... couldn't find really much of anything in the way of parts, Did find one site with a "Sony" link, when I clicked on it it said item no longer made... or something to that effect.... So I assume it IS crt based.

If it's a CRT based set...

There are 3 of them... I would think they are $400 to $600 a piece... and then you have to fiqure in the labor to change /align the CRTS which isn't going to be "cheap".

If it's NOT a crt based set, and the set is indeed damaged it's not going to be cheap to replace the light engine either.

Maybe these people can quote you a price. http://www.ercservice.com/Sony-repair/sony-tv-repair.html

Here's some info that may apply: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=8aca55eacb5521413e276d22135220b3 &t=406182

There is a "trick" to reverse burn-in in the above link.
