I am just strting to investigate getting a projector and screen instead of a plasma, and I was looking at motorized screens. Some are black and some are white, what is the difference?
which are better and for what reasons?

Black? or Grey? While I did not look at any motorized screens, all the screens I looked at were either white or grey. I chose a grey screen to improve black levels with my LCD projector. DLP projectors, which generally produce better black levels than LCDs, can use either a white or grey screen - choose an appropriate gain level for the screen based on the brightness of the PJ

White screens are color and contrast neutral. Grey screens reduce brightness but add contrast. High gain screens increase brightness but may reduce contrast. Some expensive screens can raise both contrast and brightness.

Black screens are very new and not yet on the market. They reject a lot of ambient light for day time viewing but have a narrow viewing cone.
