I'm unable to get a picture or sound when hooking up my Philips 42PF9996 LCD flat panel to my DISH network 942 HD receiver/DVR. Everythings works using component cable connections. I tried using a different HDMI cable, but still nothing. Neither DISH or Philips techs were of any help. How much of a difference will HDMI make? I'm not sure how hard to push this with DISH & Philips. I'm running everything else through a Yamaha RSV1500 receiver, but that does not have an HDMI connection. I'm posting this on both the Plasma & LCD forum & the satellite forum.

We are getting ready to sign up for Dish also for our 42PF9976. I am interested in finding out if you get the problem resolved or have any further information.
I received a call from DISH tech service last night, in response to an email message I sent to DISH. According to him, the problem lies with the DISH 942 PVR. It's a software issue that they don't yet have corrected, & aren't sure when they will get it corrected. I don't know if it's specific to connections with just my Philips LCD or not, but suspect it's a broader issue, as they don't plan to connect users when it's corrected as there are too many of us. He suggested just checking back in a month or so. The component connections from my 942 thru my Yamaha AV receiver to my TV work just fine. According to the tech any improvement w/ the HDMI cable may not even be discernable; it's mainly just reducing the number of cables from 4 or 5 to 1.
I don't believe a Gefen switch would be of help here. Doesn't it just allow 2 HDMI output devices to be run to a single input device? I'm just trying to connect a single HDMI to another HDMI. Sounds like it's not a universal 942 problem if you're able to use it. I can see how DISH may have made sure (or fixed the problem if there was one) that the 942's HDMI worked with Panny plasmas, as the latter are such big sellers & the Philips 42" LCD perhaps not so big.
Obviously (or so I thought) I was not suggesting the Gefen as a fix, merely providing complete details on the connectivity I was reporting to work correctly. I don't know if the 942 HDMI works with the Panasonic, as I've never connected them directly together. However, the main point (it's not a universal problem)was interpreted as intended.
