have 24" component stands under them? Seems to defeat the purpose and causes the screen to be another 2 feet from the viewer futher diluting the "immersion" factor.
If you are going to have a deep satnd under the Tv would it not make sense to put the TV on a stand closer to the viewer for a yet enlarged Screen?
Well, In my situation, I don't have a stand under the screen which I agree is kinda weird... but I mount mine up to maximize the distance away from my TV. That way, I can get a larger TV. It I were to have my TV on a stand or something, I would have only gotten a 42". But now that it's up against the wall, I can view a 50" comfortably.
Well for one thing they look alot better, the floating plasma effect you know. As a precursor to buying a plasma the room size should have been taken into consideration for the correct viewing distance and screen size selection.
I am putting mine on the wall with a cabinet underneath for a couple reasons. 1. Keep the kids from touching the screen (as they like to do) 2. Hide all the wires in the wall (very clean look) 3. Keep all the components near the tv where I will be using them.....

Is there a market for plasma tv stands used only once? My plasma is wall mounted, stand was used once to set-up the TV and ops checked for 2 weeks before mounting on the wall. Hopefully will not need it again as a temporary stand to remove from the wall.
Certainly would be a market here in Japan. plamas generally come without a stand or wall bracket. I have been watching mine sitting in the styrofoam braces that were in the box it was shipped with....while I am waiting on my wall bracket to arrive...which it just did. Only problem is by the time people paid shipping to get the stand to Japan, it would not be much of a bargin anymore.

The TV stand is approx 60lbs which is added to the cost of the TV and shipping charges. Maybe I can find another use for it like a boat anchor.
60lbs? Wow, that is pretty substantial. Sounds like it would certainly hold a small/med. boat in place! ....you might be stuck with it...but people buy lots of more unusual items on eBay.
