I have a Pansat 2500a. Looks like it may take a while to get N2 to work on it, if ever. I want to use the Pansat to receive true FTA from AMC-4 @ 101degrees west. I can not get FTA channels from that bird along with Dish Net, maybe I am doing something wrong. My thought is to buy a N2 compliant box but it must have closed caption capability as I am near deaf and my neighbors are complaining about my loud TV, so duh, shut your door dude. Oh well, that's not nice so I am trying to be a better neighbor. Maybe LK can offer some advise, huh?

Viewing requirements for "True" FTA
There have been alot of questions lately about what's on other satellites besides Dish and BEV. Here are some things to remember about watching true FTA.
Your 18" or 20" dish with Direct TV/Dish/BEV LNB will not work! For one thing, the dish is too small to pick up the lower frequency signals from the FTA sats. Secondly, the Dish/BEV LNB is for 12.2-12.7 GHz circular (right-left) polarity. Ku FTA sats require 11.7-12.2 GHz linear (horizontal-vertical) polarity. C-band sats require a C-band LNB. Using your Dish Net LNB for FTA is like trying to tune into AM stations on an FM radio.
Some satellites, such as Galaxy 10R and Telstar 5, have both C-band and Ku-band capability. This does not mean that you can use a Ku dish to get C-band signals or vice-versa. Listed below are the dish requirements for each satellite and/or band allocation.
Here's the lowdown on various FTA sats and what's needed to get them:

The profanity and petty bickering is...oh well, I won't go there. I did have one other question in my original post. I am in need of a box that will give me closed caption. My church offers a package concisting of a Fortec Lifetime Ultra receiver with a36" dish that is designed to get our programming from AMC 4. This package is only $199 with free shipping. It sounds like a good deal but I do need the captioning. In the meantime, keep up your good work and thank you for all your help over the last seven months.
