i'm assuming that any of the modles with a S

Here are the current models of USA RP sets.

Circuit City has a sale on a 51" Hitachi for $949 a 65" at $1299. Not either of those models on the Hitachi website. But great bargains for those who want to wait out the technology a year or two.

Grizz,

Here's what I know. The S does not mean it's silver. As for as I know, they are all silver. BTW the 710/715 models are the newest. The 500 series were last years.

The 710A is the lowest model on the totem pole. The 710 and 710S adds the "super contrast II CRT's", plus a virtual 1080P processor that lets you switch from 1080i or 540P. You also get 26 point advanced video processing and automatic 3:2 film processing. Spec sheets are identical for both the 710 and 710S, so there must be some minor feature differences.

The 715 is the UltraVision model. The only differences between it and the 710 and 710S is the 5 element lens system (instead of 4 element), an illuminated remote control, and a USB input for a memory card.

I don't know why Hitachi has to have 4 different 57" models. It's very confusing. Here is a link to all of them.

I incorrectly stated that the Hitachi 500 series were last years models. They are actually current models without the built-in HD tuner.

I have not seen any "reviews." CAn only go from what I have read from owners of Hitachi in general and they seem to like their choice.

The s715 is a good bet but I would not shy away from the $949 Aspect without looking at it. Especially if you are looking to replace it in a few years with SED or another technology that actually improves on the current CRT technology rather then try all kinds of ominous things to REPLACE it.

From what I have read, the 715 is the top Hitachi model. I'm not sure of the price difference between the 710 and 710S. The 715 is probably slightly brighter due to the 5 element lens vs. the 4 element. You would most likely end up turning the brightness down a bit anyway, so the extra money spent may not be worth it unless you gotta have the illuminated remote. LOL.

Wow, $1599 is one heck of a deal on that set. I would jump on that deal ASAP since it says while supplies last. I think the .88 cent designation on the price means that they are clearing their inventory on that model. Get it while you can.
