Just bought a 42" plasma and it has no kind of burn in protection...Should I wory about leaving it on a channel that has the large weather storm maps and info down in the corner? How long does it take for an image to burn in? Thanks...

I'm like you Dylanxxv I have just purchased a panasonic th-50px50u and would like to know if burn in is like braking in a car motor or do you have to worry about this for the life of the plasma.
If you display static images for a long time you can get either image retention or burn in. You need to vary the type of material you are viewing to avoid this. Also during the first hundred hours or so view your panel with the brightness and contrast lowered to avoid uneven aging of the phospors.
I'm thinking of buying a plasma 42" 720p model...The possiblity of burn-in is also worrying me. If I were to only use the TV at most 4-5 hours a day, most of the time it would be considerably less, playing Xbox360 on it. Would something such as a health meter and experience bar, standard video game meters, be a threat for burn-in?
I've read somewhere that burn-in has mostly been eliminated due to improved technology. Also, I've heard plasmas will dim over-time; how much time until the picture is noticeably dimmer?
If I had the plasma hooked up to my PC and have the screen saver to just turn to blackness after 10 minutes or so to avoid icon burn-in. Does black require the tv to shoot a constant stream of black pixels that would cause a TV-wide black burn-in? Or does black not require the TV to use its pixels?
