Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 27 Registered: Jun-05 | Hi Perrey Z. , I lost contact with the forum for a day, I thought it was shut down or something do to all the nonsense, it is nice to see things are back to normal. Anyhow as you well know you convinced me on the Vizio P50HDM over the Samsung 5052. It makes all the sense in the world with my budget. This Monday is the big day. It's been a long wait and a lot of chat, but I have learned so much in little time. Still consider myself a novice though. Just wanted to know if you had anymore additional comments on this model. What ever happened to JMR have heard from him? Even if you have nothing left to add, I just want to say thanks for your advise over the past couple of months. I am sure once I have it up and running there will be a million more dilemas. Right now I am trying to figure out how to calibrate with DIGITAL VIDEO ESSENTIALS, I cannot understand how to use this tool that everone claims you cannot do without. Look forward in hearing from. |

Made it sound good too so I started to believe what was said. Said that Toshiba was using Orion for Production of the 27HL85 and it was a Chi Mei Panel. This is WRONG. It is a LG panel I found out produced for them by LG. Said Viewsonic 2750W was a Samsung panel. This was also wrong as Samsung doesnt make 27" panels, only Chi Mei, LG, and other taiwanese makes make 27". Dont trust Perrey Z. |
Perrey Z. Unregistered guest | Hi Mario, I thought the moderator shut down the forum thanks to the many trolls as Joe Morris and the other anonymous who contribute "so much" and entertain us with theiir nonsense and jelousy towards me. I'm glad the forum's back. I'd check the Vizio 50HDM., very well unit for the price..unfortunately like most new plasmas, it doesn't have any screen saver features., it does have this option for future software upgrades. the picture quality and colors are very clean. Blacks and Whites are well define., however i did notice a slight hint of visual noise around intensive Reds, Yellows, Whites and Blacks., On the White areas it wasn't that visible as in the other colors. There wasn't any out of the ordinary settings done to it., just the usual factory setting which was "Vivid" and high contrast and brightness. But once i made a few adjustments to it it started to look more natural. The design is VERY similar to the Samsung's HP-R5052 even the buttons are located on the right side of the bezel. The high gloss Black mask doesn't look that well., kinda cheap., but for $2,599.99 it's one of the least things you'll notice. I didn't heard any fans., i'm not saying it doesn't have any, but i got real close to it and i didn't heard anything., another good thing is it doesn't produce excesive amounts of heat, just like any medium-size LCD TV. The input bay is facing down, just like most flat panels., very easy to connect, not a lot of confusion there. The back cover is divided into two parts; The top is aluminum painted in glossy Black and the lower part where the speakers are it's plastic. I didn't saw the remote, but a drawing of it is printed on the carton. From the looks of it, the remote is not going to be an easy task to operate. One more thing, this is TV with a integrated NTSC tuner., you'll need a external source to get High def programming {HD Ready}. Still for $2,599.99 it's better than the 50" Tatung-made Akai they have for $2,688.98 If you have any other questions, please don't hesite to ask. |
Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 30 Registered: Jun-05 | thanks for your review Perrey, I bought rubber silencers from nexfan. you know what 120mm and will try and make the fans as quiet as possible. Most people say they love the picture quality but not the fan noise. I believe with some minor adjustments the fans can be very quiet. I just cannot figure out how to calibrate video using digital video essentials, only the audio was I able to calibrate and my current tv sounds great after calibration. If you have any suggestions on how to calibrate the Vizio or any settings that I can understand, please send them through. Have a great weekend. |
Perrey Z. Unregistered guest | "If you have any suggestions on how to calibrate the Vizio or any settings that i can understand, please send them through." I will. I'll be checking into that much further. With some fine tunning, this set will look awesome. What bugs me about this TV is that the FCC mandated that all TVs larger than 36" must have a built-in HD tuner., this unit does not. What's up with that? I didn't heard the fans. At first i thought it was a fanless unit, but if you had read other users complaining about them, then i guess they are there and apparently are somewhat loud., wonder why i didn't heard them? I'd try to pay close attention to every little detail, including unusual things with the picture, settings or/and any noises or static. Hmmm., makes me wanna go back later in the week and try some more adjustments., maybe on a Tuesday or Wednesday thouse are the days when the warehouse it's almost empty., that way i could adjust it in a more peaceful enviroment and get the best out of it. "Have a great weekend." Thanks! you too! |

Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 32 Registered: Jun-05 | Perrey Z., Hi I got the Vizio yesterday. I love it. I made sure that I got a unit with a July manufacture date. She is as quiet as a mouse. The worse part was carrying it. Very heavy. The second was paying for it. I paid by debit card and had to use three cards and run to the bank. Luckily it was early in the day. I have not had a chance to do much more with her, but will soon and then report more. I highly suggest that if people are interested that they should hurry, sale ends on the 28th coupon is available on ebay to purchase, not for the coupon but for the trouble of obtaining and listing and mailing it. Directv comes over this afternoon to install the HDtivo receiver. Prices have dropped dramatically with them also (highdef forum). I also highly suggest if anyone wants to learn more on Vizio experiences that they should check out the avsforum under vizio. On a finaly note, I just want to thank you again for your advise. Originally I was only looking as the Samsung 5052 but could not afford it. I work as a waiter and have to work very hard and for a long time to get one of these, thanks to you I managed to do that with the Vizio. If you are considering this unit give it a try just get July, the guy in the store opened three boxes before we found the correct manufacture date on the quiet unit. Have a great day. |
Golfox Unregistered guest | I am on the fence with this unit. Panasonic is supposedly dropping prices on their units at the end of this month. Currently the 50px500u units can be purchased for $3500, but there are rumors of a $500 price drop. I would love to have a built in cable card to avoid needing a set top box. For only $400 more plus a marginally better picture....It might be worth it. |

Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 35 Registered: Jun-05 | golfox, the Vizio has a fantastic PQ perhaps you can use the extra money to buy someone a surprise gift. Also if you go for the Vizio make sure you have costco employee open the boxes and find you a july manufacture date. The chances are better with this date of getting a unit with quiet fans. |
Unregistered guest | Hi, Just got a p50 and the Fans are noisy... I notice someone mentioned that a production date of July gave him a quiet unit. Did they change fan on units after july? I'll check when I get home today for production date... thought I would have to live with it (can't complain too much for a 50" feature rich unit at under $2600.) Great forum BTW... |

We have received some initial feedback from customers regarding the level of sound emitted from the back of the display. The sound is caused by the air transfer between the fan and back of the chassis. We have identified a design solution to minimize the sound level of this air transfer. The Panny BLOWS away the the Vizio. The build quality on the Viz. sucks. The PQ is just ok and SD looks like s#it. This panel is not even in same ballpark as a Panny. Read a "REAL" forum like AVS to get the real deal. Now Jim, Tell everyone that you are PAID by Vizio to market thier crap! |
