Hi there - Hoping someone can help with a quesiton I have regarding DVD Audio connections. I have noticed that several DVD players have both OPTICAL / Fiber audio OUT and also have 5.1 Decoder Out - meaning separate connections fro FL/FR, Rear, Center, etc. which connect directly to the reciever. Which of these two connections offer superior sound? What are the differences between the two? Thanks in advance!

If you have a receiver with a built in decoder, there's no reason to pay more for a player with the decorder, the 6 seperate audio connections. Those are mainly for a receiver that doesn't have the decoder built in, but has the seperate inputs.

The only times the separate cables (5.1) are needed is for SACD if your player has that capability.
