Is S-Video sometimes better than Component Video?

Hi-

I just got a Panasonic 37" HDTV. I have found that when I watch HDTV, Component Video is better, hands-down. However, when I watch regular TV, S-Video appears better. By better, I mean sharper and clearer. Is this normal or can there be something else going on? Actually, using component, it seems that regular TV doesn't look that great at all (however, it looks amazing in HDTV). Does anyone else have this problem

Amishit, what you are experiencing is common with digital tvs when displaying a standard definition signal. But I would not expect that signal to look better over S-video. With electronics, strange things do occasionally happen. Accept your good fortune and go with the flow.

Standard, cable, analog picture will not lok as good as digital channels or HD channels. If you have a problem i would suggest taht you use coax for channels in your area still analog, should make them clearer. Then use your box input(say componnent 1) for digital and hdtv, and your regular tuner in the tv for channels under 100 that are ananlog. But your observation is right. Peas is an idiot.

Thanks Cable boy. That is actually what I ended up doing. Regular TV does look much better with analog Coax than with either S-Video or Component. I dont get as many channels though. I'm going to see if my cable company has a reciever that has both Coax and Component outputs.

amish, i got the same tv as you. I have done several tests with cables for output. RCA, coax cable are design for analog. DVI, component, S-video cables are for digital. When using analog cable for digital output, it looks horrible. if you want to learn more about different type of cables and how they performed, check out monster cable website http://monstercable.com/hookup_learning/

"I have done several tests with cables for output. RCA, coax cable are design for analog. DVI, component, S-video cables are for digital. "

Tsk, Tsk, misinformation galore in this simple sentence above. Component cables pass an analog signal, S-Video cables pass an analog signal as well.
