Progressive Scan DVD hookup

I just purchased a Panasonic CT32HL15 HDTV Monitor and a Panasonic DVD-S27 DVD Player with progressive scan. My understanding is that I am required to use the component video outputs to get the progressive scan but I have an older Sony STR-DE515 that I've used for surround sound, to use it I have to connect using the audio cable and S video cable.

My question is, am I stuck having to choose between progressive scan and surround sound? What would be the better way to hook my components up?

Don't connect the video from the DVD to the stereo, connect straight to the TV. Then connect the audio from the player to the stereo. You'll have progressive and surround.

thats what I am doing, the S video from the DVD player goes straight to the TV. The audio goes from the DVD to the stereo. My understanding from the users guide is that I will not get progressive because I am not using the component outputs from the DVD player.

Use the components from the DVD to the TV.

OK, but I lose my surround sound? Is the progressive video worth it?
