Why would you want to spend more for a 50" plasma with a 10,000:1 Contrast Ratio and 60,000-Hrs.? Check out http://www.vizioce.com/ search for their 50HDM., similar specs, built-in ATSC tuner, HDMi W/ HDCP for only $2,599.99 {after $400.00 off coupon} at Costco between August 22nd thru the 28th. Samsung is the OEM of that Vizio. You'll pay more if you go with the namebrand. |

I cannot locate the vizio 50 hdm at costco at all right now, where do I find more info. on this super sale. My biggest concern on this model is how well protected is it with the burn in issue, the samsung hpr5052 seems to have some degree of protection. speakers are slightly better to. How do you weigh the pros and cons of the two models? I appreciate your intelligent views on this. |

The good thing of this deal is that if you aren't 100% satisfied with it, you can always take it back for a full refund, even if you got it online and you don't want it, you will get 100% of your money back that includes shipping & handling. It's hard to say, i haven't seen the HP-R5052 or the Vizio in person, but if they are the same TV with different bezels the performance should be the same. |

Unregistered guest | I didn't find any other information that could answer your tuner question., but if the case is that this is a monitor instead of a TV there shouldn't be any problems if you are going to use a satellite or digital cable receiver., Thouse STBs will act as a TV tuner. The integrated tuner is essential when you use it to receive only over the air signals with an antenna or analog cable without a box., and even if that were the case, you can always use a VHS or DVD player or get a NTSC/ATSC external tuner like the Humax HFA-100 that goes for $199.00. My guess is, the Vizio is a TV, there are too many good inputs to be just a monitor. |

I also noticed the samsung hpr 5052 has 12 bit processing color and the vizio has 10 bit processing, the samsung has 1300 cd/m brightness vs. the vizio 1000cd/m brightness - is this a major difference really? The samsung uses 390 watts of power and the vizio use 520 watts of power, is it still possible they may be the same in some respects? I do not understand what these numbers mean but the difference seems to slight. |

Perrey Z. Unregistered guest | There is not such thing as a 10,000:1 contrast LG panel. The only panel available with thouse specs. is from Samsung. Costco is authorized for some brands, V,inc. happens to be one of them. But that doesn't really matter, they have a terrific hassle-free return policy and if your TV dies in 5-years you can simply take it back along with the remote, accessories and literature {not box required} and they'll refund your money or you can exchange it for whatever is available as long as your membership is active. You could say Costco's return policy it's like a extended warranty without paying for it. Specs. are never the same, Sometimes the clients, in this case Vizio ask their OEMs to change a few things to meet their own criteria {cost is the major factor}. When i wrote the 50HDM was OEM by Samsung i should had explain it doesn't neccessary mean it's going to be a 100% Samsung., Vizio is a cost-effective small company, the panel and some electronic boards might be top class, but in order to gain market share with their competetive prices, they need to cut corners. These "corners" are un-neccessary technologies from Samsung like DNIe that could be implemented in other ways without calling it "DNIe"., The DNIe feature might be available on the Vizio 50HDM just under another technical name to keep licensing cost down. The same thing with audio., SRS WOW is cheaper to license than Dolby ProLogic. With SRS WOW you get a decent sound, but won't be as good as Dolby. I hope you understand this complicated aspect of the manufacturing indutry. |

If you're so sure about your information and work for V,inc. then i strongly suggest to spend a few dollars in training seminars and properly teach your CSR to inform the callers with accurate information. Another thing, if you know so much and work for V,inc. then you could had jump a few days earlier and help the OP with his inquiries, don't you think that would had been the proper thing to do? |

It is said that you can pick up the summer savings passport book at any costco, but there is no guarantee that they will still have any. But before doing that, he wanted to buy the coupon from me for $20.00., i explain to him is not just the coupon, but that he needed to be a member in order to buy it. I ask myself; Is this deal worth it? will this Vizio be the "Furby" or "Tickle me Elmo" of us grown ups?, How desperate is [name] that he's willing to give me 20-bucks for a tiny piece of paper? I guess will have to wait until the 22nd when the madness will start. P.S: I didn't sold him the coupon, we drove there and that's when he became a member., That 25-year old was happier than a kid in a candy store when the associate handed him a passport booklet. |

ThePMan Unregistered guest | It was at my costco this weekend. As good as the pioneer? Not even close to my eyes. The Colors are all washed out. Very poor black level. The gloss trim looks really cheap. and the FANS ARE VERY LOUD. I could hear them in Costco clear as a bell. Not a lot of user settings to dial in a better PQ. I tried for a long time. The price is cheap, this is one of those you get what you pay for. I would buy a Comercial Panasonic or Pioneer. Well worth the $800-1100 more in my book. |

BigBangTheory Unregistered guest | I checked out the Samsung at Bestbuy. It was in the middle of 2 rows of plasmas. The picture is incredible. You could notice a huge difference in the picture quality from the panasonic and lg in the same size. All tv's had the same show on so it was easy to tell which has the better picture. Pretty close to the pioneer but I think the Samsung had a better pic. |

shottymarq Unregistered guest | I installed the poineer PDP-5060hd for a friend last night. let me tell you with the HDMI connection watching dvd's was a dream. the black is really outstanding. The few HD programs available were also pretty good. my only concern was that regular tv signal was not sharp image seemed somewhat pixelated, maybe it was our feed. another gripe for me was that the tuner was not built in. but if you have the money its a great buy. I'm also trying to get some info on this latest samsung |
