DVD to digital cable hookup

I'm having trouble connecting my DVD (Daewoo 3000) to my digital cable/TV. The TV is a JVC D-series. I have the digital cable set up and it works fine. However, when I hook up the DVD player the TV doesn't seem to recognize it. I get nothing on the screen (just hte digital cable picture) and even switching through the different video inputs doesn't help.

Few things: I have a splitter set up to run my VCR which I'd like to keep. I just slide the bar from TV to VCR. Could this be affecting the DVD connection?

I have tried hooking the DVD up into the back of the digital cable box, and the back of the TV directly, and neither work. This DVD player does not have a cable in line for me to run the cable through it. Is that a problem?

Thanks for any/all help. This is making me crazy!!!

Can you please contact me at Phatbyslm@aol.com if you were able to get this all worked out...I bought a DVD player and I am having the same trouble that you are having...I have a VCR, a dvd player, and a digital cable box, not to mention a Playstation 2...I even tried hooking it right into the tv and still no picture but the digital cable...Please let me know if you can help me...Thanks!

Found this on another help board..maybe it will give you an idea...

>>Many of you have written me saying that you have tried to connect your DVD player into your VCR and then use the VCR to pass the signal to your TV, but have experienced very poor picture quality in doing this. The reason that a DVD player cannot be connected to a TV in this fashion is due to the fact that DVDs are encoded with anti-copy technology that interferes with the VCR's circuitry. That is why you cannot make a copy of a DVD onto a VCR tape successfully, however, this also prevents you from using the VCR as a "conduit" to pass a DVD signal through to the TV.

So, what is a person to do? Most people have their antenna or cable connected to the VCR and, from there, the VCR is connected to their TV. However, how can you connect a DVD player to your TV, if your TV doesn't have AV inputs that are compatible with the DVD player? Secondly, how can you connect both your VCR and DVD player your TV at the same time if your TV only has one cable or antenna input?

The answer to the above questions is a little black box that has been around for years called an RF (Radio Frequency) modulator. The function of an RF modulator is simple; it converts the video (and/or audio) output of a DVD player (or camcorder or video game) into a channel 3/4 signal that is compatible with a TV's cable or antenna input. However, with the advent of DVD, the need for a more sophisicated RF modulator is needed.

My personal recommendation for good RF modulator to use for this purpose is Recoton's model DVD647. The main feature of this unit that makes it perfectly suited for use with DVD players is it capacity to accept the standard audio/video outputs of a DVD player and the cable input (even passed through a VCR) simultaneously. Just plug your cable/vcr output into its cable input connection and the DVD player into its AV inputs. Then, just connect a standard cable to your TV. Next, select either the channel 3 or 4 output on the back of the RF modulator. Then, turn the TV on and the RF modulator will automatically detect your cable input for the TV. When you want to watch your DVD player, just put the TV on channel 3 or 4, turn the DVD on and the RF modulator will automatically detect the DVD player and will display your DVD movie. It is just that simple.

In addition, if you don't have a stereo system you can also hookup the DVD player's stereo outputs to the RF modulator as well, obviously you won't get the benefits of surround sound, but you will hear the audio through the TV's speakers. Also, you won't get the full benifits of a DVD quality picture and the conversion from video to RF (cable) downgrades the resolution, however, as you switch between your VCR and DVD you will notice the quality of the DVD image is still superior than anything you probably have viewed on your TV. <<

With a D Series JVC you can hook up the component output of the dvd player directly into the jacks of the tv. Make sure you dvd player is set for Component and that in the menu of the jvc you change the V2 Component to Yes that will solve all your problems.

I just bought a Zenith combination VCR/DVD player, and tried to hook it up between my digital cable box and my 1988 Proton TV. (Note: this arrangement has worked just fine for years with my old VCR, including earlier today). The VCR part of the VCR/DVD works fine for playback of a prerecorded tape (haven't tried the DVD player yet since I don't have any DVDs around), but the incoming digital cable signal when it gets to the TV gives me no real picture or sound - just static, snow, etc. - even when I tried cutting out the intervening VCR/DVD. Is this a problem with reinitializing the digital cable maybe, or have I somehow hooked it up wrong? I tried to hook it up just the way I had with the old VCR. The Zenith directions are terrible.

I have a non name brand TV, (you know what I mean, a cheap-o). Anyways, the TV doesnt have the red & white in and output components. It does have the coax imput for the cable line. My problem is that since we dont have these components on our TV we are not able to connect our new DVD player. We have tried to route the DVD player through the cable box, where it does have the red & white in and output components. It still is not working. Are we missing something? Are we needing to plug the DVD player into the cable box? Are we needing an RF Modulator thingy? Please help, we dont know what to do and our cable company cant seem to help, or wont. Thanks a bunch.

We have a 3 year old GE TV, Digital Cable with box, and received a DVD Player and have connected directly from the DVD to the TV and don't get anything (sound, picture, etc.) - Then I connected from the DVD to the Cable Box with the same result. Can anyone tell me if I need any additional components, or what I'm doing wrong? Help!

You cannot pass digital channels through a DVD,only analogue. You have to use a splitter, one coaxial to the cable box,one to the DVD.Connect the DVD to the TV using component video leads and seperate audio leads. You can only record analogue channels.
