DVD Picture Quality on Plasma...

Hello,

I have a Samsung EDTV Plasma. I like this plasma quite a bit. Regular cable looks good, digital channels look better and HDTV looks amazing.

However,
I'm a bit disappointed and confused with DVD playback. I have a nice JVC progressive scan DVD player hooked up to the plasma using quality Monster component cables.

What I notice, is that some DVDs look bad. For example, dark scenes look solorarized and snowy. (sorry, don't know what terms to use to describe it)

Bright scenes look great though on a majority of DVDs I have.

Is this just the flaw on some discs that the plasma is able to catch?

I've been reading through this forum and found that a upconverting DVD player is not really worth it, as some TVs do this for you. How do I know if mine does?

The specs for this new plasma can be found here:

http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/...=Specifications

You'll notice that 720/1080i is listed on the specs. Not sure why 1080i is there as this is an EDTV. ???

I like this plasma and don't want to return it. Is there any way to improve DVD playback?

I've got a calibration DVD coming in this week. I'll be using that to further enhance the picture, but not sure if it will help a bit with this problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

--
Mike
