Onkyo DVD Players any good?

Hi Guys,

I just purchased an Onkyo TSX-R600 receiver and the Onkyo SKS-HT500 Speaker system to replace my 6 year old Bose Acoustimass 7 w/Kenwood KVR7080 receiver HTS. I will be hooking the new system up to a 54" Akai PTH5498 Television and will also be using a Sony SA-WM40 Sub. Does this sound like a good system so far? I feel badly mislead on the bose system I had purchase back in the day and am trying to redeem myself. ;)

I was told it would be better to purchase a DVD player that is progressive scan and was hoping that there was a good Onkyo one out there that is in the 200-300 price range that would match my receiver. Anyone have any suggestions? And, if the Onkyo's aren't any good, what would you suggest instead?

Thanks in advance!

I just purchased the Onkyo HTS650 which also comes with the SKS-HT500 speakers. I also purchased the Onkyo DVCP500 which is a 5 disc progressive scan dvd changer. I have it hooked up to my Toshiba 50H71 and so far the picture and sound is amazing. Definitely a difference from my non progressive DVD player. I would only recommend going progressive if your TV is HD ready or capable which I'm assuming it is. I currently own a 12 year Onkyo stereo and I swear is the best sound and quality money can buy. I know other brands are as good like Denon, Harmon K and others but for $225 that I paid, nothing else can come close. If you are interested, call Peter Green from SoundCity at 800-888-5343 X 701. See what kind of pricing he can do for you. Good luck and hope this helps.
