Dexter starts P4 emulator price war, PGM responds.

By Joel Dillon, TechMedia News Service

Chicago - As if it could not get any wilder right now in the DirecTV piracy scene. In the span of the past 10 days we have witnessed the first confirmed hack of the P4 card by DSS legend Pierre Martineau (PGM) and now a cheaper clone by Dexter, who ironically enough worked very closely with PGM in developing the P4 emulator.

It appears that PGM still has the upper hand though, as his emulator is compatible with the latest generation DirecTV P5 card, opening up all channels including pay-per-view on the test unit we were sent here at TechMedia from Simon Griffen at PGM Dev team headquarters in Canada.

Also to PGM's advantage are features such as 'tier locking' and 'time zone and locals support' which is a advanced water marked feature within his P4 and P5 emulator private keyed software application which is used to program the emulator 'knocker' boards included in our package.

In a brief telephone interview with PGM, he explained to us that his P4 innovation is a culmination of relative cross-communication between a fabricated negative zkt and a reverse in the counter clock cycle. What results is a cancelled out cleaning effect of the digital chain sector leading up to a broken down and decrypted 4028 sectors. As most astute readers of this column know, when the 4028 sectors are decrypted you have a compromised P4 datastream. PGM will not divulge details on the P5 emulator, only to say that it is out of Beta testing and fully functional on all channels and all receivers.

As far as any price war goes, we have tested the Dexter P4 emulator unit and the features just are not there. It is not as user friendly, and frankly does not live up to the Dexter name. We are not sure if this release by Dexter was done just to spite PGM, but for the extra $50 or so that you will spend on the PGM unit you will be more than happy with the additional benefits, nevermind the fact that the PGM unit is the only one to be fully compatible with both the P4 and P5 cards.

Call the PGM Development Team direct at 1-(800)-671-9612 and ask to speak to Simon or Deboarah (PGM's wife), as the call volume is extremely high they ask that you be patient when ordering. PGM has informed us that they at the time of this writing they have approximately 40 units left in stock and the next batch will not be ready until the first week of April as they are waiting on backordered 2515 chips from their semi-conductor supplier in China.
