Noise from DLP monitor

Anonymous

Yesterday I purchased a Samsung 46" DLP HL-P4663W. There seems to be a slight whirring noise for the tv? Can anything help with this? Aslo anyone know the difference between the model I bought and the HL-R4677W?

Typical from those Samsung's. After a while you will just get used to the noise.

The 77 is the same set with Cablecard and the internal HD tuner.

I previously owned the 5063W model and returned 2 sets for that same problem, don't settle for it and go with something alittle more. You should be able to get a great deal on the Samsung 5085W, as of now its being sold at many online retailers starting at $3000.

Anybody know when the 77 models will be coming out in the stores? Is there an advantage to having the tuner built in?

To my knowledge the 77 series is already available. You should be able to gather more info at the Samsung website.

"I just ordered the HLR-4677 from ListenUp in Colorado. I was told that the 77's shipped last week and will be available at his store on 3/29. I was able to order mine for roughly $2450 with shipping (same price as the 74's). I don't plan on using the cable card or built in tuner as TimeWarner will replace my DVR with a HD-DVR with HDMI outputs.

I figure newer is better. Does anyone know if there are any other improvments with the 77's from the 74's?"

Do you know if the 77's are any quieter than the 63's? I tried to access the listen up website and can't, do you know the address? Also contacted Samsung and they said that they have not been released yet and don't know when they will be. I would probably be buing from BB or CC where I live.

Also does anyone have any thoughts on if there is an advantage to having a built in tuner verses the box? I don'e have cable.

You don't want cable or CableCard, either!
I use a Direct TV Sat receiver.
I really like my Samsung SIR TS360 receiver.
I wouldn't wait for a 77 model.
The HLP5674 is the same set without the useless HD tuner and CableCard.
You can't here the fan from 8 feet away on any of them.
Here are some links.

Here's a link to a pdf from Texas Instruments. It lists the benefits of DLP and has a large listing of 2005 models from numerous manufacturers.

rob052067-that is quite a peice of propagada that they put out.
lets see-it is put out by texas insterments?
they forgot to list the fan noise ,rainbows, and all the other things dlp stands for.-lol

Yeah, and I especially like the picture on page 11. It looks great on my LCD monitor. heh-heh. I wonder how much it cost TI to put out that bit of brain-washing BS!@?

I just bought a 56" Samsung DLP and the salesmen at the store (of course)are saying that we need to have the TV calibrated every year. And also that we need to have a monster surge and noise protector (costly). Does anyone out there know about these things? Are they necessary or helpful?

Let me guess...Best Buy or Circuit City!

DLP's don't require calibration. It's a single chip.

I'm using a Monster HTS2000 power strip for lightning protection.
I have a friend who's house was struck. Everything on the power strip was saved. Everything else fried.

More bad information from my 2nd favorite foe. DLP's do indeed require calibration for the best display of accurate information. Are you sure you worked for TI FYI? As an accountant perhaps?

Calibration has nothing to do with how many chips a display has but with correct brightness, contrast, color, tint, gamma levels, overscan, and so on.

I have had both my CRT and DLP displays professionally calibrated and was very pleased. My CRT is due for another this summer and I will gladly spring for the extra $$$'s in order to get the best and most accurate display.

xvxvxvx,

chips have absolutley nothing to do with a
calibration.

calibration is just another term for aligning
and blending light scale ,geometry
and color together..

Good call!

Both of you are right, however those are user settings.
I don't think she meant Avia or HTX disk set-up.

I believe the store was trying to sell an extended warranty for convergence calibration or some type of non-user technical calibration.

Single DLP chips do not require these.

these are not just user setting firmware
adjustments,there are many other adjustments
that can be made manually on various boards
through out the tv.

none of which I would let a big box store
tech touch.

FYI you got the extended warranty sales pitch
pegged, they will tell you anything to make that
sale.....it truely is a shame.

Just to set the record straight:

poet said, "chips have absolutley nothing to do with a calibration"

xv...said, "Calibration has nothing to do with how many chips a display has"

That's incorrect if you are calibrating convergence.

Three chip LCOS sets from Brillian and JVC have non-user technical convergence settings. Each chip controls one of three colors that must overlay perfectly. Same goes for a front projection three chip DLP. It's not a once a year requirement, if ever, but the adjustments exist.

your not adjusting the chip ,the adjustment
is off of an otca board, this adjustment changes
no values or parameters within the chip overset
or spectrum value.

the chip remains the same and only acts as a
supply coordinate for the face color on the
alignment scale.

stop reading books and website info to base facts
you have not set anything straight I been designing this stuff for 2 decades,,

YOU KNOW JUST ENOUGH TO BE DANGEROUS.

I never said the chips, specifically!
There are convergence adjustments on 3 chip sets.
I know enough to be helpful, not fix the damn thing.
You are the tv guy, not me.

Stop insulting an old man, you old man!
I made my point! Don't pick it apart with specific bullsh!t.

"I made my point!

But you made an incorrect point. As the Poet mentioned convergence is but one of many service menu adjustments performed during a professional calibration. The only point you have made is that you are indeed dangerous although unlike Vin you do try to be helpful.

MAN... CHILLOUT ......

If I didn't like you I would never back you up
on a post.. you have the cable vs sat post on
the money..and I backed you up on it.

although all the info I gave here is acurate
and true(very technical engineering terms)
I didn't expect you to understand all of it

take care ..catch ya soon

I'll poor a little more Gray Goose in my RedBull!

xv...formerly xv...whatever,

BB or CC was telling her she needed calibration every year on her DLP...it's bullsh!t...plain and simple...just like you...sometimes!

I didn't say that...yes I did...no...wait...
A little more Gray Goose...please!

You should get a physical once a year but you might not need one, you should get your teeth cleaned once a year although you might get by without it, you should file your taxes once a year although many people don't.

Just because you are unable to see the virtue in an annual professional calibration that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

well,

from a technical standpoint ,a cal a year really
won't keep the doctor away, only preventive maintenance insures that.

adjusting the picture so it looks good doesn't
stop the set from burning up,people put so
much time into the wrong things with equipment
sometimes....keeping the dust out and dirt away
from circuit boards,hot bulbs,power supplys
and anything that over heats is equal to seeing the doctor.

having the set calibrated and tuned up is more
like a new suit and a hair cut,if c.c or b.b
sold their b.s service warranty based on the
principal of keeping the tv clean and free from
destructive heat it would be a valid point ,but
those people are salesmen not electronic
professionals.

they probably don't even know what dust ..dirt
can do to equpment.

I just received my hlp5674w. Any tips on setting it up? Also is the dB the same for this and the 5685?
