I believe that the 50v500 is an LCD rear projection TV. So long life may not be the issues but accuracy would be. That's a great TV, I almost bought it but wound up buyiny the Sony 50WE655. It was really a toss up but the Sony has a smaller base which fit on my Studio Tech AV cabinet, and replacement bulbs are cheaper for the Sony. There are a number of good tools to help you set that TV up right one would be the AVIA Guide to Home theater disc which costs 25.00 to 35.00 bucks depending on where you get it. Also if you have DVD's you may notice that some have a THX Optimizer which has some useful setup patterns. Enjoy that Hitachi!
