I read somewhere online that components in the back of your tv(mine being a 51" Mitsb non HDTV CRT) meant that you have the capabilities to use a progressive scan dvd player. I always used my old pioneer dvd player since it worked fine. Well I found the user manual for my big screen and under components input it said 480i only. So my question is what purpose does the components serve on my tv? I always used components from my dvd player to my TV anyways, Is that signal better than Svideo? Should/Can components be used for other inputs other than prog scan or HDTV? Does progressive scan really make a difference? Hope you guys can answer my question. Sorry for the rambling.

Component inputs on a non-HD TV is still a better way to feed a signal than an S-Video cable. But as your user manual says, your TV cannot handle a progressive scan signal. Prog scan does result in a smoother, more film-like picture in sets able to handle it. But it's not a night and day difference so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
