Thanks Unregistered guest | Hello all i am looking to buy a new cheap DVD player. I want it to play all formats but mainly i want it to hook up to my existing amp and speakers. I want to get my 5.1 working with the new player. This is my current amp I looked at this Teac today http://www.teac.com.au/documents/DV3120.pdf The salesman told me that by using an optical cable i will get 5.1 sound. Is this true? Would i be better off paying a little extra and getting the next model up that says its a 5.1 http://www.teac.com.au/documents/DV3170.pdf Would it make a difference? Thanks all |

The latter then converts it to analogue surround sound. Just check that you have a LFE (i.e. subwoofer) output on receiver for the ".1" channel. The main purpose for 5.1 analogue out is high-resolution audio (SACD and DVD-A). It seems neither of the Teacs handle this format. If you wish to check out hi-rez, there are f.e. inexpensive Pioneer multiformat players. But you would need a receiver with 5.1 input too, to get hi-rez in surround. Cheers AL |
