My Sony carousel "progressive scan" DVD player also has these connectors. However, I can only get the DVD player to play when the component video output is connected to a "VGA" input (looks like a typical computer VGA connector on the TV) using a component-to-VGA cable that Philips provided. It won't display when I use the monster cables that I just spent $70 for! :-( The Philips manual indicates that in addition to the Y/Pb/Pr connectors, I should be connecting a "CVBS" line from the DVD to the CVBS input of the TV. I tried using the analog video signal for this, and I do get yucky analog at that point, but no HD signal. It's worth mentioning that the successful connection with the component video-to-VGA cable produces a signal that shows up under the "HD-A" mode play of the TV, rather than "HD-D." I'm assuming this "A" versus "D" thing is analog/digital. Of course the manual does not explain this! I'm also assuming that's why the picture via the VGA port seems less-than-stellar to me. Eternally grateful for suggestions at this point! -Chuck W. |
