Weak bass when playing dvd-audio via 5.1 analogue output on Marantz DV6400

Hi

I get a very soft output to the sub-woofer, and I also think less extended then when using my DV6400's processing via 5.1 analogue out when playing dvd-audio, as opposed to when listening to normal dvd sound, cd, or whatever is input via the receiver's digital or other analogue inputs such as tv, cd, etc.
Even if I try drop the sub level on the receiver's audio settings and then up the subwoofer's own gain control so that when I switch to analogue 5.1 input for dvd-audio/sacd it should sound the same level, but I still hear the bass sounds less extended then normal when in dvd-audio 5.1 analogue mode.
Does anybody have an idea to overcome this? My receiver is the Marantz SR5400. I have tried messing around with the dvd player's audio setup settings, and all my speakers or set to small, and the sub is set to "yes" and the levels are all the same at 0 db.

Would appreciate any advice if possible.

Many thanks
Carl
