HDTV cable output to non-HDTV tuner

Hi,

I have an older Toshiba 61" rear projection TV with 900 lines resolution, but it is not "HDTV ready". The TV does have component input. I'm wondering if going to an HDTV cable box would be worthwhile. Will the TV automatically adjust the picture to 900 lines resolution, and thereby benefit from the higher quality feed? Or will there be display problems.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

To answer your question, the answer is no.

This link might help you understand the difference between horizontal and verticle resolution and how TV scanning rates factor into the mix.

Hope this helps.
