Progressive Scan Problems

I just today purchased a Magnavox MDV456/17 DVD player with progressive scan. I hooked it up to my Philips 26PW6341/37 TV via component cables. When I try to enable progressive scan the picture is not viewable and bounces all over the screen. Any idea why this happens?

You own an analog TV. It will not display a progressive input.

Why does it have component connections on it then?

Component connections are the best analog connection possible. They have nothing to do with progressive vs interlaced scan modes.

So basically the picture should be better, but there's still no progressive scan, right?

Sorry for my ignorance on the subject.

Correct. In order of worst to best analog video connections:

3. Composite Cable
2. S-Video Cable
1. Component Cables
