i am so confused. i have 4,000$ to spend on a great tv that is as trouble free as possible with great service with digital cable connection. i thought i would buy a samsung but at best buy i saw the sony lcd 60"and thought it looked great but...... then i read of ALLthe trouble on line on ecoustics and wonder if i should just stay with my trouble free 45" sony old school rear projection from 4 years ago that has been NO troubl e. Please advise asap. (super bowl is comin and i have 1000 dvd's) marty
I have the Sony 42" LCD (kdf42we655) and for its midrange price ($2300) its everything I could ask for. Some people say LCDs don't show dark colors as well, but I can't tell the difference nor do I care that much if something is black compared to JET black. HD and DVDs look amazing. I'd recommend going with this model, the 50" if that's what you want, because it most definitely worth your money.

Newer LCD projections in general do quite well with blacks, the issue is really a non-issue today, basically alot of noise w/o much substance
As for someone holding back buying a 60 inch LCD and having hi def cable service ready to hook-in, I believe that is very unwise
Comcast - for example with their 10 to 15 hi def channels and their state-of-the-art Motorola combo Hi Def tuner/DVR ( 2 tuner hard drive hi def recorder) - is now incredible to watch. In fact the hi def playback is precisely identical to the live broadcast in quality, with Comcast hi def broadcasts themselves identical to uncompressed Over the Air hi def signals.
LCD projection - whether rear or front - will produce the most extraordinary HI DEF pictures available w/o color wheel/headache/diziness risk innate to single chip DLP
As for the SONY 60" LCD, most that own it love that TV. Just avoid BEST BUY etc extended warranties and set aside the 200 to 400 saved for a bulb down the road. Of course Sony itself does offer their own warranty for a minimal period, something the BIG BOX stores chose to ignore or distort
