Jon | Hi. I am planning to upgrade my dvd player and would appreciate any feedback about the DENON DVD-900 player. I currently own a DENON receiver and I am impressed by the specs I have seen, but have not seen any user reviews or opinions on this model....Thanks in advance. |
frank | I bought the 900 a couple of months ago and love it. The good thing is the Faroudja chip, clarity from dvds is a lot better, use the component cables. The remote is basic and very easy. I paid $399, i'm sure it's less now but if I didn't buy it then i'd have bought another toshiba and in a few months would be upgrading again. My opinion a good buy. |
Bill Taft | Frank, you said buy another toshiba. I'm fixing to buy my first dvd player and I was thinking about buying the SD 3800 or the SD 4800. Any comments? |
Mike from Canada | These are the exact two models I have been comparing and I had a chance to really A/B compare the two of them on a really nice HDTV big screen. I found that the picture quality of the denon was quite a bit smoother (more film like)and did better with "danger scenes" handling artifacts compared to the toshiba. The denon also has Burr Brown DACs so technically the audio should be better, but I really could not tell a difference there even though I was listening through beautiful Paradigm reference speakers. The Toshiba 4800 is a chunk cheaper and does have DVD audio (a nice plus)although it lacks bass management for front speakers. A problem not uncommon for many DVD audio players today. There was a review of the toshiba in the Jan 2003 Sound and Vision you can check out. Overall, both are very good players and you really can't go wrong with either of them, however if DVD Audio is not a huge deal to you and you are willing to spend a little extra, I would recommend the Denon. Overall the build quality, and video quality for sure are at a substantially higher level. Hope that helps a bit. Let us know what you decide! -mike from canada |

| the denon 900 dvd had a good review on this website, go to home video, then dvd reviews. I've had the unit for over 4 months and am very impressed with it, not one single jump or freeze during playback which i experianced with toshiba brands. |
| I am Just wondering if the region version of this DVD player can be unlocked so it can play back DVDs with an other region code. Does anyone know a way? |
| I actually am also considering the denon 900. It has everything I need. My concern is the same as E.C. above, can this DVD be region free? |
Anonymous | what are regions? |

| I've had a DVD-900 for most of 2003. Its very good for the price. It has component and optical out which make it useful. The cost to buy a DVD-A Denon are too much, but for CD/DVD/MP3 the DVD-900 is just fine. |
RR RR | I just ordered one, so no review as yet, but the refurbished units are selling for $99 at ecost.com, free shipping. |
| I just ordered one also at ecost. I have read some troublesome reviews after I placed the order though. I will have to wait and judge for myself. |
| I have also ordered one from ecost. Is it good to buy a refurbished DVD player though? Will they work good as a new unit? Thanks... |
blair | get the firmware upgrade to fix the sub-title and black level problem. (-: |
