I just bought the panny s97... it can play a lot of formats - it says it plays, among others, cd-r and mp3s. what's the diff? i burn mp3s onto cd-r disks. is "playing mp3s" different? is there any evidence here that i know what i'm talking about at all...LOL?

Ordinary music CDs carry cda archives containing 44.1KHz/16 bits PCM. Mp3 discs contain compressed files, and player must have the algorithm to uncompress them. I'm not sure, but I think that also the disc formatting is different (i.e. data disc vs standardized music disc).
