I am unable to locate a upscaling dvd player that has a hdmi cable packaged with it does anyone know of one? I have seen the sammy 841 with has the dvi cable but my tv only has hdmi and the conversion cable for dvi to hdmi is almost as much as the dvd player... thank you in advance.

The Panasonic DVD-S97S looks like does HDMI native, but I don't know if it comes with the cable.

The Toshiba 5970 comes w/ an HDMI cable and is about $150... The Panasonic also comes w/ it, but it is about double the cost.

5970 is a huge piece of garbage. Worst electronic purchase ever

Anyone have some facts that uphold the above post, aside from personal opinion? I am just looking for something what will be better than the progressive scan philly that I have which only gives me 480p. So even if the 5970 is not a 5 star up-scaling unit it should hold me over until blueray or hddvd takes off, right? (Seems if it was to big of a piece of trash it would not have any supporters) Regardless I look forward to hearing some facts from other owners or suggestions on other units in the same price range. Thank you in advance.

Yes, the 5970 is junk. I just returned mine to best buy yesterday. I have a $30.00 Wal-Mart DVD [;ayer in the basement that I am using until I find another one that I like, and the Picture is much better than the Toshiba!

I think I am keeping my 5970. The picture, with Sony 42" LCD projector TV is terrific. The remote, however, is a mini-disaster, with a very narrow beam and low power. The player's setup menu, is also sub-par, with a bare minimum of controls, implemented in 70's style computer text. But...$150 and 1080i via supplied HDMI cable.
