I bought the Sony NS975V and it froze up after one day. Thought it was a lemon, so I returned it and got another. After two weeks, the same thing. In the middle of I Robot, the player froze and wouldn't read the DVD. In fact, it wouldn't read any disk I had and the drawer wouldn't open until I powered down the player and then powered up. I wasn't too impressed with the HDMI interface also. I have it hooked up to a 42" LCD Sony and I rate the PQ as 'good'. I'm thinking of changing to progressive as I think DVD players with the HDMI interface are still working out the bugs. This is very frustrating...

Yours is definitely a malfunction. Mine is locking the tray so I can't pop the disc out. No idea why it's doing it. But I called tech support and they want me to fax them my drivers license and purchase receipt. WTF? They said it's for my protection before they'll tell me the unlock procedure. That's BS. To say the least I'm pissed. Anyone know where I can find the info on the net? I'm guessing it's child locked but I tried the method in the manual and it's not working. My last DVD player lasted 7 years with no problems. This one I've had 2 weeks.

I returned the NS975V and got a Marantz DV6500. It cost over $400, but it has been flawless and the PQ is very good to excellent. I can't believe so many people are having so many problems with DVD's now. I bought a Toshiba 6 years ago and have never had a problem. I truly believe the manfacturers are pushing out the products before they have been thoroughly tested.
