Does a TV have to be HDTV ready to be progressive scan compatible?

I will be getting a 27" flatscreen TV for Christmas and I want to be sure it has component inputs because of the progressive scan compatibility. But if it is not HDTV ready will it display at 480p?

List the model number you will be getting and someone can tell you for sure. Without that the answer is if it cost $300 you ain't gonna get a digital (progressive) scan.

What does the owner's manual say? 480P is EDTV so you don't need a HDTV to be compatible with Progressive Scan.
