How important it is to have progressive scan and 3/2 pull down features in the DVD player if my TV can up-convert any 480i signal to 520P and has a movie mode to do the 3/2 pull down?
Honestly it depends on if wether or not the line doubler in your television is good or not. The main advantage in having it built into the player is that the player converts the signal inside the player so it avoids an extra D/A conversion. AS far as it making a difference though it depends on if wether or not the line doubler in your tv is better at handling the conversion. The only way to really be sure is to test your tv with a progressive player to decide which one is better.
