Going crazy with DVI connectivity

Hi,

I'm considering buying a Philips LCD 32PF9976, which has a DVI-i input, 3 scarts and no component in (like most of the newer Philips sets, which is a bummer). The package includes a DVI-to-VGA connector.

I own a DVD player with progressive scan, which outputs its progressive signal through component video (3 RCA).

The question is, how is it possible to connect the two together to have the TV display the progressive signal? I have seen component-to-VGA cables around, and in some reviews of the newest LCDs from Philips this is mentioned but I've never seen it actually tested: connecting a component-to-VGA cable to the DVD player and then to the display through the VGA-to-DVI connector provided. Does anybody know if this actually works? Is there any significant signal loss from all the connections involved? Are there any other connection options?

Thanks for any insight!

Hi,
I have bought the Philips LCD 32PF9976 and I have the exact same problem. However it seems that the DVI-i input combines HDVI, YPbPr and DVI capability. The other issue is that I can't find a cable to test the connection between my DVD player that is YPbPr and the DVI plug of the LCD.
If anyone has an answer I would be very happy. Philips can't answer to the questions, I've tried to question them.

Thanks
Freddy
