Hello, I have read thru the threads and could not find anyone with exactly the same problem as mine.
I have a sony tv vcr combo. In the back there is only a cable input. I decided to hook up a dvd player to my tv. Radio Shack told me all I need is a rf modulator. I do not have a cable box only an ab cable. I took the cable and ran it to the rf modulator and then ran a coax to the tv. I hooked up the dvd player wires (tried both the red white yellow wires and also the s-video) to the rf modulator. The tv works find. When I turn the dvd on (tv is on channel 3) there is no picture or sound for the dvd player. Any suggestions, please post/email me (tomcics@yahoo.com) thanks.

Modulator could be bad, someone else here just had that problem with a new modulator not long ago.

Thanks Dave, last night I redid all the wires (got new ones) and dvd player then worked, however I noticed the second time I tried it there was a lot of static in the sound. Can't seem to win.

Shouldn't be static, check the wires again. Could be a bad modulator.

Went home over lunch and replaced the audio wires (again) and static disappeared. I will kepp an eye on it and bring the modulator back to Radio Shack if it happens again. One problem I have is there are so many darn wires everywhere, it's hard to avoid tugging and pulling on them when moving anything, I may have caused my own problem this time. I appreciate your expertise, have a good day. Tom

Cheap RCA cables go bad pretty easy. If using an RF modulator there isn't much sense in buying good cables though since you lose so much going through the modulator anyway.

I have a question about hooking up a DVD/VCR combination unit to an older TV which only has a single coaxial cable input. I know that I will need an FR Modulator, but do not understand the procedure of hooking up all of the components. Any help out there?

I had same setup. I ran cable wire into modulator, then ran another coax cable from modulator into the back of my tv/vcr combo. I then used rca wires (audio/video) from dvd player to modulator. TV had to be on channel 3.

Does anyone know if I need an RF Modulator if I buy a DVD/VCR Combo? The tv only has RF Coaxial connection.
