Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony all make good quality DVD players. Personally I have always liked Toshiba video products, as I have a 32" Tube...parents and brother both use Toshiba DVD players. Most of your major brand names produce sufficient quality products. Right now I use my XBox as my DVD player. Since I don't have a HDTV at the moment, it suffices just fine for me. I still can't see a HUGE improvement from my XBox DVD and my brothers Toshiba SD4700 in NON progressive scan. Oh well, I am sure the Toshiba is better but I like having as little clutter as possible. The panasonics are being highly touted over on the home theater forum. There are lots of threads comparing the various panasonic dvd players. I use my PS2 for my dvd player. I have an old 36" RCA pro scan (bought used from a friend) and the 650. Talk about your budget system, lol. I couldn't be happier- LOTR looks and sounds fantastic, as do all the other movies we have watched so far.
