Have purchased several dvd-audio disks all of which say will play multi-channel, and, with one exception, do. However Queen's A Night at the Opera will only play two channel stereo. This is not does not appear to be a setup problem; have checked all on screen settings for the Denon 2200. Disk is manufactured by DTS Entertainment and has the dvd-audio logo. Back of cover says..."This disk is playable on all dvd players. Each dvd disk includes a multi-channel and/or stereo soundtrack for dvd audio players ... plus a DTS master quality soundtrack and a standard stereo track for dvd-video players .." Have tried two of these disks .. same problem. What gives? Thanks |

For 5.1 the DTS track (which is strictly not DVD-A, but DVD-V) is probably as good as the 5.1 DVD-A, so probably DTS do not see any need to put both sorts of 5.1 on the disc. The terminology of DVD-A is a complete mess. Disc makers want you to know the discs will play on all DVD players. DVD-A player manufacturers want you to think there are discs you can't play without one. Anyone who is not thoroughly confused has not understood the problem. I banged away asking dumb questions for weeks on the thread What does"DVD-audio" mean here?. There are some good links in some of those posts. |
