If someone can purchase a home theater in box at a great affordable price then why would anyone want to by a separate receiver, speakers, and a subwoofer.

Different options, upgradeable, better sound, different looks, etc etc. A $150 HTiB doesn't sound as good as a $2000 constructed system.

Andy,

Maybe...Zenith? Man they've been around for 80+ years (I remember our 1st Zenith color set when I was a kid <NO I am NOT 80 :-)) linkage: http://www.zenith.com/home_flash.asp?flash=true

Stephen,
Upgradeability is the key. If you can get an HTIB with a good receiver and OK speakers at a good price now (Onkyo comes to mind) the speakers etc can be upgraded later if you wish without starting over and scrapping the whole system...

However with many HTIB systems everything connection wise is custom to that system (read BOSE).
