Av receiver or amplifier????

hello all....i am new to this and i don know anything about av receivers and amps!!! so pls help...my top priority is music (75%) and movies (25%) only. so i decided to buy a 7.1 av receiver. yamaha rx-v1900... the thing is..... i had heard that no one buys av receivers for music. is that true? i need a powerfull system that plays nice and loudly.. wat is the problem if i buy an av receiver for music??? if i play an mp3 song in it , will i b able to hear the music in all 8 speakers? (including sub)? or any special mp3???? pls help.......

The Yamaha receiver will work really well for your movies and should be quite pleasing to play MP3 music through. The only true difference between and amp and a receiver is an on-board radio tuner for the receiver which may or may not ever be used.

If you're going to use mp3's as a source, then using an A/V receiver will do just fine. The Yamaha is not a bad unit at all.
