Onkyo, pioneer, and Yamaha have some well priced receivers. Best bang for the buck does not give you the best receiver. I like Denon for ease of use and the iPOD intergration.
For the best bang for the buck I would go with Onkyo and their 7xx series and up. Starting with the 7xx series, you get THX certification and a load of bells and whistles.
