Hooking up digital coax to vintage Technics

Hello,
I have a 1 year old Toshiba TV, & the only audio output is a coax digital output.
I'd like to hook this up to my Technics equip (SE-A5 & SU-A6)

Is there a device that will allow this? Is the sound quality degraded because of the digital to analog conversion?

Thx

Hello,

You can use either the audio out of your STB (Set Top Box [cable or satellite]) or use the audio out of an old VCR. There are several issues that could make taking the audio from the TV less than desirable.

Do you have a cable box? That would be best way to connect to this preamp. If not like Jim suggested use a VCR. You would have to get a digital to anolog external converter.

Hey thx, I bought my stereo when I was in the Air Force in '84. I sold everthing else, but I couldn't part with the big amp. It actually sounded better than the Carver M400 cube amp I had. I do miss my Teac reel-to-reel tho http://www.audioscope.net/teac-2000-black-newnos-p-682.html

Anyway, I will try the cable box idea. Is there a website that sells the digital to analog box?

hi t
if by digital to audio box you mean a DAC, take a look at the line-up at Pacific Valve.
http://www.pacificvalve.us/DACS.html

you could run optical out from tv or cable box to DAC and then RCAs from DAC into your TEAC.

I recommend an inexpensive SS DAC.
