Can you give us a model number? That would be helpful. This may not be exactly the procedure for your particular model but it may get you started:

On
To enjoy the full quality potential offered by progressive
scan feature, a progressive scan TV is required.
● Press 4 to activate the Progressive Scan.
-- Progressive Scan icon will light up.
-- If the TV System is set to PAL, the TV System will
automatically set to NTSC.
Off
Select this if a normal covertional TV is connected to
your DVD system.
● Press 4 again to restore to normal TV system.
-- Interlace Scan will appear.

"i think ive got to turn off progressive scan, strange though as my is 1080p"

Progressive scan is not available on Scart leads. Use component cables instead.

"the player hasnt got component"

Really? You've got a DVD player with a "p-scan" option and there's no component? Difficult to believe. Look for YPbPr (red-green-blue) outputs.

The only other way to get prog scan out of a player is HDMI. Do you have that?

Strange. I just read your owner's manual and nowhere is there a mention of progressive scan. Actually, that makes sense since there is no component or HDMI outputs. So the problem must lie elsewhere.

So the next question is did you switch the video output in the set up menu to "S-VIDEO"?
I suppose that's going to be a little difficult to check since you most likely can't see the menu now, correct? If so, hook up an RCA phono jack from the yellow video out on the amp to the composite in on the TV. The menu should show up then, and you can switch the video back to "SCART".

Here's hoping this easy fix is your problem....Upload
