You can do better with the speakers, both receivers are fine for the money. http://paradigm.com/en/paradigm/fronts-cinema-series-1-2-2.paradigm http://paradigm.com/en/paradigm/fronts-monitor-series-1-2-4.paradigm

One approach that you could take is to only buy the front L&R speakers and wait till you have more money for the rest of the speakers. Paradigm Atoms are $250 a pair, the PDR-8 subwoofer is $300. If you can get slight discount say 10% and a little more money you could get a much better speaker setup.

You can hook it up and play back your movies in stereo for now. The sound will not be surround sound but it will be better than the TVs sound and great for music play back. When your ready for the next step in building you system get the back speakers first for surround sound and add the center last. In a set up with no center speaker tell the receiver there is no center and it will put the diolog in the front L&R speakers.
