I have future plans in setting up surround sound and am looking for suggestions on the best bang for your buck.

My budget is around $300, but Im willing to go higher

Whole system or just receiver?

Define your willingness to go higher.

If $300 is for the total for an entire surround sound sytem don't waste your money.

Maybe a boom-box is what you want?

Go on ebay and look for a used system? You'll only be buying a receiver and speakers they'll either work or the seller will have to say they don't.

Just be sure to check the S&H before you buy, could be pretty heavy.

Even just for a receiver $300 isn't going to get you very much.

Don't know where you're getting the $300 from but if you could come up with another $150, the Onkyo HT-SR800 system's pretty sweet for only $450.

Check it out.
