Jargon - HDTV vs. Integrated HDTV cable-ready??

Greetings.

Looking for a 42" flat panel. Probably want plasma, as viewing angle is an issue (one sofa is somewhat off axis). Want a set to watch VHS & DVD movies, and watch TV - HD if available.

Am trying to make sense of manufacturer's jargon.
In this example, I'm looking at the Philips 42" plasma line.

2 sets are described as 'Flat HDTV'.

2 others are called 'Digital Widescreen Flat TV', are 'Integrated HTDV cable-ready', and have HDMI inputs.

Can someone 'splain in English which sets might be preferable for which purpose?

My understanding is that to get the HD product, I have to rent a $10/month widget from Comcast -- might the 'integrated' machinery make this rental unnecessary?

Many thanks.
