I'm planning to show movies regularly in a classroom which is approximately 50' x 25' x 15' with a seating capacity of 120. The screen would be placed parallel to the 25' wall. The room does not have a proper acoustic layout. I'm considering buying a 5.1 tower (on-floor) sound system. Will it be sufficient given the size of the room? What all problems I might face? What all alternatives I might think of given that I have a budget of around INR 15000 (USD 300)? (Price of a 5.1 system in India is around INR 10000) I know I won't get the best impact with this budget, but I do have to optimize somewhere.

I'm absolutely new to this area. Please do help. The future of a CineClub is in your hands!

You mean $300 for the whole thing or just the receiver?

Now for that size room I would recommend a 7.1 system. Not so much for the sound quality as much as filling the room properly.

You can make the room acoustically correct by putting paneling on the sides of the wall.
